Shannon Helliwell

Pools and Project Manager

As Pools and Project Manager, Shannon manages our largest commercial project Olive Estate Lifestyle Village and coordinates the swimming pool installations for NV Pools.

When did you start working at NVL?
I started working at NVL in January 2017.

What do you love about landscaping and swimming pool construction?
For me it is the process of turning nothing into a stunning end product which I love the most. But I also love to liase with the clients, to see their anticipation throughout the process and their satisfaction when the project is completed.

How did your career at NVL and NVP develop?
With having worked with Nigel in a former Job I was lucky enough to start as a Project Manager right away. I wanted to deal with big commercial developments and started to be the Manager for Olive Estates Lifestyle Village. Also, with my passion about work, having a good knowledge at swimming pool construction and my urge to be involved in and around the business, we were able to expand and get our own swimming pool company going which is now known as NV Pools.

What do people not realise about landscaping?
Often people underestimate how much a property can benefit from a professional landscape revamp. Landscaping involves a lot of planning, effort and organisation. If it is a full landscaping project, it is important to plan enough time in advance before the construction even begins. From then it can go quite quickly and you will see a beautiful outcome.

Best thing about NVL?
I really appreciate that Nigel and also Angela takes suggestions on board and support everyone to come up with new ideas. But it is also the team that makes working at NVL as enjoyable as it is.

What does a normal work day look like?
Busy. As part of the management team I have to have a lot of different hats on. A big part of my day involves many phone calls for any kind of organisation, site visits and even having my hands on the tools.

Favourite project you worked on and why?
That must be a recent pool installation we did in Tasman. It was fascinating installing a new pool shape and to see a stunning end product which just perfectly ties in with the existing house design.
But I also love working at Olive as we have created a village of landscaping where there was nothing before. And now a few years later I can still come around regularly, see the growth and maintain the jobs we have completed.
